Focusing on Improving Attendance

Planning for Success

Yass High School will be focusing on improving attendance over Term 3.

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Parents and carers can support their children to attend on time every day.

§  Routines establish habits for being rested, organised and on time.

§  Digital devices need to be managed to ensure that sleeping patterns and family interactions are prioritised and positive.

§  5Ps: Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance – be organised and ready for learning.

§  Health is critical for learning – keep sick children at home (especially if they have any COVID symptoms) and inform the school.

§  Plan B for when life throws you a curve ball. Have a alternative plan for getting your children to school when the unexpected occurs.

§  Wellbeing concerns can prevent young people from attending. Call the school and seek help.

§  Medical appointments can be difficult to schedule at optimum times. Try to book these outside of school ours but contact the school if this cannot be avoided.

§  Holidays are important to give children life experiences which deepen their learning in the classroom and for families to build memories together. These are best planned for school holiday periods so that learning is not interrupted.
