To meet the HSC minimum standard, students need to achieve Level 3 or 4 in short online numeracy, reading and writing tests.

Students may attempt the HSC Minimum Standards test in Year 10, 11 or 12, or up to five years after starting their first HSC course.
Whilst at Yass High School, students may be able to complete their HSC Minimum Standards test under the supervision of teachers, using either school computers or BYOD.
The Minimum Standards tests are in Reading (45 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes), Numeracy (45 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes) and Writing (500 words maximum in 45 minutes). There are also practice tests that may be completed for each test type.
Each Minimum Standards test may only be attempted 4 times per year during Years 10 and 11, and 6 times per year during Year 12. A mimimum of 30 days is required between each attempt per test. Once Level 3 has been achieved in a test, that test may no longer be attempted.
Installers are available for Windows and macOS BYOD. A Chromebook extension is also available. Students must check with the supervising teacher that they are installing the correct version of the Lockdown Browser.
Chromebooks are not recommended for use in the Writing test due to caching issues. Chromebooks may be used for the Reading and Numeracy tests.
The following links may be used to download the installers for the Locked Down Browser that is required to complete the BYOD Minimum Standards tests. The versions are current as at 1st March 2025. Please check with the supervising teacher that these are the correct versions for the current Minimum Standards tests.
Please note that the Locked Down Browser cannot be opened using normal methods such as double-clicking the application icon. The Locked Down Browser can only be launched by clicking on the link on the NESA website.

Do NOT try and launch the Locked Down Browser without a valid StudentID and PIN. If you do so, you will have to force-restart your computer.
