Continuing Learning Remotely – Technology
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you for supporting us as we have migrated to delivering education with a considerably heavier use of technology. We are impressed and proud of the way our staff have supported each other to utilise a diverse range of technology to deliver Teaching and Learning to students.
Communicating with the School - Students
Students should now have access to all of their normal classes via a digital platform of either Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams. If they do not, they need to check their student emails, Sentral notices or contact the school office so the code can be provided. We ask that our students check their emails and Sentral notices multiple times per day, but at least once in the morning and then again in the afternoon.
A number of teachers have indicated that some students are not using the message and comments features of their online learning environments appropriately. We ask that all students ensure that they are not unnecessarily adding content to this space. There are a number of social media platforms that are specifically designed to allow you to communicate with your peers. Teachers are regularly reviewing their google classrooms and it is important to keep this space as a way for you to get assistance with a particular task. Leaving comments on your online learning platform will allow your teacher to be notified that they need to provide additional support to you.
Communicating with the School – Parents
It is possible for parents to have access to the online learning platforms of our students. If you would like access to your child’s online learning platform can you please contact the school office so we can arrange for you to be added to this environment.
Yass High School staff are now working flexibly and will not always be on-site to take a phone call regarding your child. We have implemented systems to ensure that your messages are communicated with our staff efficiently even though they may not be on-site. Please be mindful of this if you receive a call from unknown numbers as our staff may be attempting to return your call. Emailing staff is also a suitable way to contact them and all YHS teaching staff emails are included at the end.
Junk/ Spam mail
We have been informed by other schools that, due to the increase in emails being sent to the wider community from ....@det.nsw.edu.au, some emails systems are considering these as spam. We are requesting that you consider checking your junk/spam mail folders just to make sure ours aren’t being sent there - if they are please mark them as not junk.
We understand some students do not have access to a device or internet for online learning. Contact the school to discuss non-digital learning from home options for your child.
