10/07/2021 From Linda Langton, Yass High School Principal

Dear Parent/Carers,

As Term 3 begins, we find ourselves back into COVID restrictions. We can all be thankful that living in a regional area has provided a level of protection not seen in metropolitan areas of NSW.

You would be aware through the media of the cyber-attack on the Department of Education which has caused the platforms used by schools to unavailable since Wednesday, making it difficult to access up-to-date information and communicate this to you. Access to emails only resumed last night to allow me to provide this update.

Following a Livestream on Friday with Georgina Harrison, Secretary of Education, I am able to provide some clarification of key points.

Regional schools are on Level 2 restrictions. This means:

·      Students can return to face-to-face teaching and learning on Tuesday, 13th July.

·       Masks are recommended but are not compulsory.

·       Staff and other adults need to maintain physical distancing – students do not.

Attendance

All students are expected to be at school unless they have even the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms should be sent home and should not return until they have received a negative test result and are symptom-free. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

Masks

While at school, masks or face coverings are recommended (but not compulsory) in all indoor settings for all staff and students in Year 7 and above.

Masks are mandatory on public transport. This applies to students aged 13 years and over, and staff when travelling to and from school and during school excursions by public transport or by chartered or private transport services.

Visitors

Non-essential visitors are not permitted in schools. This includes assemblies which will affect our planned Celebration Assemblies on Wednesday 14th July. Updated information on this will be sent out to families on Monday 12th July.

Parents who have appointments to speak with school staff about their child’s education or wellbeing, or assisting vulnerable students or students with a disability, can attend.

Parents should:

·       maintain physical distancing

·       wear a mask when indoors

·       sign in using the Service NSW QR code when entering the school.

Thank you for your ongoing support in working with us to keep our school and community safe.

Yours sincerely

Linda Langton

Principal
