The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over
the next four years to deliver 190 new and upgraded
schools to support communities across NSW.
In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on
school maintenance over five years. This is the largest
investment in public education infrastructure in the
history of NSW.
Yass High School
A project is underway to upgrade Yass High School.
The upgrade will deliver six new permanent teaching
and learning spaces devoted to STEM (science,
technology, engineering and mathematics), three
new seminar spaces, new covered outdoor areas,
new staff study facilities and new landscaping and
accessibility improvement works.
Progress summary
■ Temporary site access road has been completed
■ Civil works surrounding the main building have
been completed
■ Construction of the main building is underway
with the concrete perimeter walls and the ground
floor slab complete
■ Installation of pre-cast concrete panels
progressing well

■ Installation of the roof structure and sheeting
■ Start of internal works for classrooms and learning
spaces
Planning to improve Yass High School’s hall facilities
is also underway. More information will be shared as it
becomes available.
Summer school holiday works
Construction activities will continue until 21
December 2019 with a two week shut down over the
Christmas holidays. Construction is scheduled to recommence
on 6 January 2020.

Frequently asked questions
What works will be completed over the holidays?
The works include installation of the roof structure and
roof sheeting, and internal works for classrooms and
learning spaces.
What are the construction working hours?
Construction hours over the summer break will be as per
the standard hours:
■ Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm
■ Saturday 8:00am to 12:00pm.
Will construction take place over Christmas and
New Year?
Construction activities will continue until 20 December
2019 with a two week shut down over the Christmas
holidays. Construction is scheduled to re-commence on
6 January 2020.
What safety measures will be in place?
The health and safety of the community is our highest
priority. Temporary fencing has been erected around the
construction site to secure the area and prevent public
access.
What steps will be taken to control noise and dust
impacts?
Noise and dust control measures will be implemented in
accordance with planning approval requirements.
Hoarding and shade cloth have been erected to reduce
noise and dust impacts on the school and local residents.
The site will be regularly hosed down as required to
minimise dust pending water restrictions.
How will traffic be managed?
Traffic management will be in place where required for
the safety of students, staff, the local community and
workers.
Traffic controllers will be used where required to manage
entry and exit of vehicles to and from the construction
site. Vehicles will give way to pedestrians at all times.
