Supporting our Students

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our Executive Team have been working with their teachers to develop processes to support your children in their learning from home.

Learning Platforms

The teaching platforms in use at Yass High School are Google classrooms and Microsoft Teams. Each teacher has created a class where learning materials and additional resources are uploaded; feedback and submission of work will also occur here. Mr Facer has collated the classroom codes for all subjects and has emailed these to all students today to their school email addresses.

Communication

Teachers will communicate predominantly through their online teaching platforms (Google classrooms, Microsoft Teams). Teachers will initiate a ‘check in’ with their classes before the end of the week to ensure that every student is connected and engaged in this new world of teaching and learning. This will be a weekly routine so we can be confident that all students are able to engage with their teacher to continue their learning.

Support

Students are expected to log into SENTRAL each day to read messages and to check their school email. Teachers will be identifying students who have not engaged by the end of this week to enable Year Advisers to make contact, clarify any issues and put solutions in place early. Any issues related to connectivity (internet access), technology (inefficient or no device) or use (how do I…) can be addressed. We are able to deliver learning materials and resources in alternative modes (saved on a USB, paper package) if this suits your needs more than the online environment. Please contact the school if you would like to access these options.

Wellbeing

The Wellbeing Team has developed an online platform to support their year group with wellbeing concerns. The login details will be shared to students email address. On each page there is a HELP button that sends a direct message to their Year Adviser. This will allow the Year Adviser to involve the most appropriate support staff and agencies to ensure our care for all our young people continues during this difficult time.
