Last Day for Year 12 2020

Yr12_1

Dear parents and carers of Year 12 students,

Friday, we as a school farewell our senior leaders. This last week of classes has been interspersed with activities that have enabled Year 12 to have fun with each other, their teachers and the general school population. They have shown themselves to be young men and women of great humour, deep respect and strong connectedness to each other and to their school. I hope these past days have built wonderful memories which can be enjoyed in the years ahead.

In past years we have celebrated the many successes of Year 12 at a formal Graduation evening on the Thursday night and an informal farewell by the school the following day which showcases the speeches, photos and videos from the night before. This year, due to COVID restrictions, we are needing to reverse this process. We have postponed our Graduation Evening until November 12 so that parents can join this important celebration. The speeches will be more formal than those tomorrow but the photos and videos will be the same. We are keen to not spoil the evening with pre-broadcasting. The events of tomorrow will be collated into one video over the coming weeks and presented to each Year 12 student at the Graduation ceremony as a permanent keepsake.

Whilst I am very aware of the desire for families to share this milestone, we do not usually have parents at school on the last day. I assure you that the Graduation will be as memorable and as special as we can make it for our students and our families.

Your job as parents of school age children is nearly done for this group. They will need your calming influence, unwavering belief in their talents and supportive structure over the coming weeks as they tackle and conquer their exams. Remember that we are here to continue to assist in any way that we can so please contact the school I’d you have any concerns.

I look forward to seeing you all in November when we really are drawing a line under this stage of life!

Year 12- From their Year Advisor

It is with a tinge of sadness but also a huge sigh of relief that we can safely say Year 12 have nearly made it to the end of their schooling journey at Yass High School. The last weeks have been busy ensuring that plans are in place so that the students have fond memories of their final weeks of school.

As Year Advisor to this delightful group, I can reflect fondly on the wonderful memories I have shared with them since they began their journey in Year 7. We truly have had some fun times and special moments. Those moments for me include our rewards excursions at various venues throughout their junior years, our numerous trips to Jamberoo and our Year 10 camp at Jindabyne.

We have also had some special moments in our senior years including Pink Day Celebrations; our Year 11 luncheon; our successful fundraising at the swimming carnival and all the laughs in senior study.

For me though the stand out memory with this wonderful group was our organisation of the school fete when the group was in Year 9. This was a huge success and highlighted all of the individual talents and leadership skills amongst so many of the students.

This week we are pre-recording our celebration assembly for the school to watch on a recorded stream which will also include some live stream speeches and a final roll call. Last day for Year 12 will be Friday of Week One and will begin with the traditional Year 12 breakfast followed by the celebration assembly and then the annual students v teachers touch match.

Enjoy your last weeks at Yass High School Year 12, it has been an absolute honour to be your Year Advisor and I am excited about the next few weeks of activities that are ahead. Oh, and last but most importantly, hopefully somewhere in there, study is happening at a consistent rate to ensure success in your upcoming exams.
