Student opportunities and activities

At Yass High School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our extra-curricular highlights

Creative and performing arts

Our drama, music, and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They have the opportunity to join band and choir, take part in CAPA Night, be involved in school productions, and perform at state concerts like School Spectacular and In Concert.

Show Team

The Show Team has been part of Yass High School since 1988, with students preparing cattle and sheep for local and royal shows. They work with the school’s herd and donated stock, while building skills in teamwork, public speaking, presentation, and animal handling.

Debating and public speaking

Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.

Academic competitions

State and National Mathematics, Computing, Science, Geography, HSIE and English competitions take place throughout the year.

Rural Fire Service volunteer training

Students have the opportunity to undertake practical and theoretical training that enables them to volunteer with the Rural Fire Service (RFS).

Trips and excursions

Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn, and try new things. These experiences in the local Yass community and wider regions help them grow, build confidence, and see how their learning connects to the world.
